RC DAKAR
2011 – Industrial Design, Engineering/Prototyping
This project was completed as part of a SolidWorks/Prototyping course at Art Center College of Design. The goal was to disassemble a complex product, in this case the Associated SC18 RC car, and model and assemble each part of the source in SolidWorks—to gain understanding of how the product worked.
The second phase of the project was to redesign and remodel the product to create as close to production ready CAD so that it could be 3D printed into perfect fitting parts and assembled as thought a real product. I reimagined the SC18 RC as a Dakar Trophy Truck, re-orienting the chassis in a drop suspension configuration to give the truck a more suitable aggressive stance. For fun, I created some specification illustrations to round out the presentation of the final working—and drivable model.
